New Manga and More Magazine Sparkler Monthly Debuts

After their successful Kickstarter to reprint/continue publication of Off Beat by Jenn Lee Quick, and a a teaser issue a few weeks ago, Sparkler Monthly, a new online comics/prose/audio anthology magazine from Chromatic Press made its official debut this weekend, with issue 001. This first issue is available to read for FREE, so check it out!
Founded by former TokyoPop editors Lillian Diaz-Pryzbyl and Rebecca Scoble, Tokyo Demons author and Sailor Moon prose novel scribe Lianne Sentar, and gaming/manga expert Jill Astley, Chromatic Press is a new venture aimed at publishing original, manga-inspired content for teens, twenty-somethings, and comics fans of all ages.
With their deep experience in manga publishing and numerous connections with TokyoPop alums, Chromatic Press is launching with a roster of talent that will be familiar to many readers, including:
- Dire Hearts, an original comics series set in a magical high school by Christy Ljiewski (creator of RE:Play, published by TokyoPop)
- Off*Beat, the continuation of Jenn Lee Quick’s original comic series that was once published by TokyoPop that has been republished and continued by Chromatic Press
- Gauntlet by T2A and Ellery Prime, a new serialized suspense prose novella
- Tokyo Demons, a serialized audio drama version and prose novel version of the supernatural/suspense novel by Lianne Sentar, with Rebecca Scoble and illustrations by rem (artist for Soulless, published by Yen Press)
- Awake, a serialized sci-fi audio drama by Angela Sham, Barabara, Tory Woollcott and Rebecca Scoble
As I mentioned, you can read this first issue for free, but if you opt to subscribe, you’ll be able to read bonus content, including an article explaining how aspiring artists and authors can pitch their projects to Sparkler Monthly.
Introductory pricing for subscriptions start at $5.00/month, which renews monthly until you cancel, or $60.00 for 14 issues (which is like getting 2 issues for free). They’re still working out some bugs with PayPal (I know, since I wasn’t able to pay for my subscription because it wasn’t recognizing my PayPal password), but hang tight and enjoy the free content that’s posted now, and get a taste of what Sparkler will have to offer in the months to come.
Aw…thanks, Deb! And we fixed that Paypal bug within about 8 hours of it going up, heh. Sign-up has been smooth as silk since then.
